Midlands developer JT Leavesley has lodged plans to build a mixed-use retirement village in the outskirts of Lichfield in Staffordshire.
Lichfield District Council has been asked to sign off the Canalside scheme in Fradley consisting of a 72-room care home, 77 private homes and 128 independent and assisted-living homes.
The 72-bed, three-storey care home will incorporate 64 ensuite bedrooms with a "good proportion" large enough to serve as double rooms for couples, the developer said.
The independent homes include 33 houses/bungalows and 45 apartments. The assisted-living provision includes 50 apartments.
In addition, the plans include provision for a further 17 self-build houses and 12 apartments.
The development would also include a 99-square metre convenience store, 300-square metre childcare nursery plus play area, 800-square metre fitness centre with spa, and 400-square metre medical centre and pharmacy.
The site at Hay End Lane comprises 10 hectares (25 acres) of greenfield land located around five kilometres to the north-east of Lichfield city centre.
Retirement village plans for the site were previously knocked back in September 2019 due to it being located outside the Fradley strategic development area.
Lichfield District Council’s local plan consultation issued last November however includes the site within a proposed allocation for development.
