Luxury Anchor care home officially opened in Otley

Television presenter Martin Roberts has officially opened Anchor’s Wharfeside care home in Otley, West Yorkshire.

Anchor is England’s largest not-for-profit provider of housing and care for people living in later life.

Offering residential and dementia care, Wharfeside boasts 66 en suite bedrooms and on-site facilities including a coffee shop, bar, and hairdressing salon. Built by LNT, the three-storey home uses the latest energy efficient technology and has an Energy Performance Certificate A rating. Over 80 per cent of the roof is covered in solar panels and onsite battery stores retain any spare energy produced. In addition, the home benefits from extensive ground source heat pump technology which provides hot water and heating and enables residents to benefit from underfloor heating and comfort air cooling technology.

Martin Roberts enjoyed a tour of the home after cutting the ribbon to mark the care home’s official opening alongside Anchor’s managing director of care services, Rob Martin.

The Homes Under The Hammer star said: “Many congratulations to everyone involved in opening Wharfeside care home. I think residents will truly feel at home here.

“It’s been great to speak with people from Anchor and the local community. It’s clear that residents will be welcomed into a vibrant community and welcoming space where they will receive thoughtful, individualised care.”

Rob Martin added: “We're delighted to open this new high-quality care home. Located in beautiful surroundings while still being close to Otley’s town centre, Wharfeside is a welcome addition to the care provision in the area and with nearly 60 years of experience in care and housing, all of us at Anchor look forward to welcoming new residents to this magnificent space.

“This exciting addition to our care home portfolio demonstrates we are progressing the growth strategy set out in our business plan to create more and better homes where people can love living in later life and to create more opportunities for people to find a fulfilling career working in the social care sector.”
