The St Andrews House care home in Ashburton, Devon has been sold to a private owner off an asking price of £1,650,000.
Formerly the rectory for St Andrews Church, the renovated and extended care home comprises 24 single bedrooms, all bar one of which have ensuite facilities.
The site also features a two/three-bedroom annex that forms part of the main building, a staff house and a coach house, and comes with planning permission to add a further 12 bedrooms over the ground and garden floor level.
Previously owned by Jeremy Christophers, the home was brought to market as a retirement sale and purchased by local operator Dick Wraighte, who owns two other homes – The Old School House in Plymouth and Ermington House in the village of Ermington in South Devon.
“I’m delighted with the acquisition of St Andrews to add to our portfolio, the location fits in with our wider development plan,” said Wraighte.
“Planning consents will enable us to develop the site further, providing a high-quality care environment in the wonderful historic town of Ashburton,” he added.
Simon Harvey, senior director of brokers Christie & Co, who handled the sale, said: “We were delighted to have assisted the Christophers family in selling the home that they have owned and operated successfully for so many years. Best of luck to Dick and his team at Garad Care Homes for the future.”
