L&M Healthcare is inviting care professionals to attend an open day on 10 August at its pioneering Kitwood House dementia care home near Northwich in Cheshire.
The 68-bed establishment in Rudheath features a number of themed interactive areas that have been designed into the build in order to help residents engage and to promote positive daily life experiences.
Those include a Pullman-style railway carriage with ticket office, newspaper kiosk and waiting room.
The train is a RemPod railway carriage with LED window display that projects the sights and sounds of a moving train.
The view from the window offers changing scenes of landscapes, other trains passing by and pulling into and out of a station.
Once Kitwood House residents ‘arrive’ at their destination, they can visit experience a visit to a themed café, grocery, bakery, tailor and hardware store.
Other interactive areas include a gardening potting trolly, giant iPad, Tovertafel (Magic Table) and launderette.
Architects and builders of Kitwood House, Dynamic Building Solutions have also included infection control measures such as no-touch access, face recognition and temperature screening.
If the system detects a raised temperature that is above normal range, it will deny access.
If anyone in the building develops a high temperature, they will be immediately identified and sectioned off to be tested for infection.
In addition, all bedrooms have silent UV units that cleanse and purify the air to further reduce the risk of spreading airborne viruses.
“We believe that this home is next generation in the facilities it offers and also incorporates high-spec technology that assists in infection control that is more recognisable in futuristic airports and hospitals, rather than in care homes,” said L&M Healthcare managing director Jeanne Davies.
Key care professionals will be invited to an open day on Tuesday 10 August. Members of the local community will be invited to attend open days on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 August.
Both events are by appointment only and places are limited. To book, call Alison Porter on 07904 938187.
