Closed Ipswich care home sold for redevelopment for £1.3m

A closed care home in Ipswich has been sold for redevelopment to South Coast Care Homes for £1.3m.

The former Beech Lawn Care Home comprises 32 ensuite bedrooms spread across the ground and first floors of a three-storey detached property with single storey extensions.

The property sits in a private residential area on the outskirts of the town centre.

The home was closed last year by former owner Leafoak after 11 residents died from Covid-19.

South Coast Care Homes, owns three other properties: two in Eastbourne in East Sussex and one in Felixstowe, also in Suffolk.

The company plans to refurbish the home and reopen it under the name of Elton Park care home.

Robert Mellamphy, director of Christie & Co, who handled the sale, said: “This is a very attractive period property to which modern extensions have been added to provide a blend of original features and modern care facilities.

“I am sure that the new owners will be able to re-establish this to be a very much sought-after home.”

In a related development, Christie & Co has handled the sale of the 51-bed Colbury House care home in Totton, Hampshire, to Park Healthcare - operating as Hays House Nursing Home and Hays Park Retirement Apartments – from Colbury Care, which went into administration in November 2019.
