An Edinburgh-based housing and care provider has further strengthened its development team with the promotion of an experienced staff member to the role of development manager.
Bield Housing & Care has appointed Iain McLean, who will be based at its head office in Edinburgh but will lead on projects countrywide. His new position will oversee the planning and delivery of both new build homes and an element of refurbishment of existing developments – some 5000 units across 23 local authority areas.
Formerly a commercial surveyor, Iain has worked with Bield for more than five years in its property services team, initially as a property officer, and more recently as technical officer - concentrating on day-to-day maintenance and project management of planned investment works to Bield’s existing stock.
A Glasgow native and graduate of Glasgow Caledonian University, before joining Bield Iain previously worked as a Surveyor with P3 Consulting and South Lanarkshire Council.
Iain says: “I’m delighted to be given the opportunity to progress my career with Bield and move across to the development team. We currently have some fantastic live projects, such as Fleming Place in Edinburgh, which will see the delivery of 40 new homes for people aged 50 and over.”
“Over the past five years I have really enjoyed working with Bield and I’m looking forward to playing a key role in building new homes to complement our existing stock.”
To take up this role Iain has recently relocated from Glasgow to Edinburgh, and is looking forward to experiencing the Edinburgh festival for the first time and exploring what the East Coast has to offer.
Caryn Innes, head of development at Bield, says: “Iain will be a real asset to the team.
“During his time at Bield he has gained an extensive knowledge of Bield’s stock, operational area and the needs and demands of our customers, which will be beneficial during the planning and design process of our new developments.
“I’m delighted Iain has joined the team and the combination of his commercial and technical expertise will provide him with a good foundation to take on this key role and I’m looking forward to working with him.”
