As people get older, they are likely to develop certain impairments. There are three related impairments that affect people with dementia in particular:
Some people may develop other physical, mobility related, visual and aural impairments as a natural part of the ageing process and consequently develop complex care needs. Older people can also be more sensitive to changes in temperature. Design can help compensate for these impairments.
Although there are established guidelines to compensate for physical, visual and aural impairments, because dementia affects people in different ways, it is difficult to prescribe a set of guidelines on designing for people with dementia.
