Harnessing the power of technology for enhanced care

Anita Astle MBE, owner and managing director of Wren Hall Nursing Home, sets out, from the perspective of a care home owner, the many advantages that adoption of digital technology can bring to both residents and staff

As the world continues to advance technologically, there are numerous digital opportunities to improve and aid in the delivery of social and clinical care, particularly for older adults with complex care needs. Embracing technology in care settings is crucial to meeting the evolving needs of residents and the changing landscape of what is expected in a working environment for staff. Technological advancements can assess and enhance residents’ physical and mental health within the comfort of their home setting and communicate data with other relevant healthcare professionals — enhancing the level of care they receive. 

After conducting a recent study in this area and adopting technological practices in my own home, Wren Hall Nursing Home, I will discuss the role that technology, digital ecosystems, and digitalising clinical care can have in proactively meeting and improving health needs while reducing stress and improving outcomes for those in care home environments
