Loveday Abbey Road has collaborated with the American School in London to bring generations together and share their experiences.
Part of Loveday’s commitment to intergenerational friendships, the partnership will include events, musical performances, art workshops, readings, recitals, gardening and horticultural programmes.
Over the past six years, Loveday has focussed on facilitating intergenerational friendships between its Members, many of whom are living with dementia, and younger generations. Initiatives have included performances by the London Children’s Ballet, book readings, Highland dancing, and choir performances from local schools. Loveday Members have also provided an audience for children to practice music, dance, and theatrical performances before exams.
The intergenerational programme between Loveday and the American School in London is intended to be mutually beneficial, connecting Loveday Members to young people, who will in turn share their knowledge and life experiences with the students.
Izabela Klaczkiewicz, general manager at Loveday Abbey Road said: “Intergenerational friendships have a very positive effect on individuals living with dementia, providing a sense of purpose, meaning and intellectual stimulation as well as social engagement which are all hugely important. This is a very meaningful collaboration and we are thrilled to be partnering with the American School in London. We can’t wait to see our Members and the students thrive as they connect and share their stories and experiences.”
