A new toolkit created by healthcare training specialist Connect2Care has revealed that less than 40 per cent of care operators offer apprenticeships at all career levels.
Connect2Care also found that three-quarters of care sector employees believe there is less emphasis on training as they progress through their careers, while nearly half of care sector employees believe that apprenticeships are for the young, and ninety per cent say they would take a job if it offered skills development.
The See V toolkit reveals the missed opportunities for care operators to upskill their workforce in order to relieve ongoing staffing issues hitting the sector and ensure consistent levels of quality patient care.
Connect2Care MD Jill Whittaker OBE said: “There are huge misconceptions around apprenticeships in the UK. Most employees believe they are only for those leaving school, and less than half of care operators offer this flexible training option to workers at all career stages, meaning there are great swathes of employees around the country with untapped potential talent, or who think they have no means to diversify their skills while remaining with their current employer.
“At Connect2Care, we’re dedicated to educating care operators on the benefits that apprenticeships can bring an entire workforce, not just new starters – such as improved wellbeing, better career progression and a more loyal team less likely to seek better opportunities elsewhere.
“I urge anyone who’s interested in nurturing their team and wants to transform the ambition many employees harbour into useful skillsets to download our new See V toolkit.”
