COVER STORY: Why needs-orientated beds are so important for the elderly

Stacey Taylor, marketing manager for wissner bosserhoff in the UK, explains the many benefits that the new sentida sc bed can offer care home operators and their residents

Thanks to ongoing advances in medicine and technology, people’s life expectancy continues to rise steadily – as it has done for a number of decades. With people now living longer, we all know that this has had a variety of knock-on effects and is shaping the landscape of the long-term care market. In the UK today, there are nearly half a million people living in a care home,1 and with an increase in the number of retirement villages being built and the emphasis on hotel-like design, new priorities for living well in old age are in demand

These priorities include the desire to be provided for in a care environment that has a positive impact on a person’s physical, emotional, and psychological wellbeing. As well as having obvious physical and functional care needs met, it is also important to meet an array of other emotional and social needs to help a person maintain a high quality of life. One aspect that we should not underestimate is how a person should still wish to live a full and active life whatever their ailments, health conditions, and level of functional mobility, and any individual deserves to enter this phase of their life feeling valued and supported in their older years.

wissner bosserhoff are aware of these demands and have adapted to them as international manufacturers in the field of care. With function as standard, we also take a more design-led approach on homeliness, individuality, security, comfort, and flexibility to achieve nursing bed solutions which are designed in collaboration with health care professionals to furnish an array of care environments with appropriate forms of living.
