You’re not fired – the advantages of apprenticeships

As this year’s National Careers Week draws to a close, Kirsty Simmonds, Adult Health & Social Care Lead at Connect2Care, explores the value of apprenticeships in attracting and retaining staff.

As the pressure of staff shortages continues to take its toll on the care sector, it can prove a real challenge to recruit the right people with the right skills – and to keep hold of them.

Today’s employees often want to try new things, to upskill and reskill and to have their value recognised. And in the current job market, they can find another position if those needs aren’t met.

The good news is that apprenticeships are adapting to help meet these demands and new flexible training models being explored could unlock meaningful opportunities for both employers and apprentices in the care sector in 2022.
