Using digital technology to transform the stigma surrounding stress

Rishi Sodha, care director at Handsale’s new Priesty Fields care home in Congleton, Chesire that opened last month, explains how care technology can ease stress in an often overloaded workforce.

According to the Health and Safety Executive, an estimated 38.8m working days were lost due to work-related ill health and non-fatal workplace injuries in 2019/20. Stress, depression or anxiety and musculoskeletal disorders accounted for the majority of days lost due to work-related ill health - 17.9m and 8.9m respectively.

Indeed, the care sector is continuously evolving and conjuring up new innovative ways to ease the mental strain on staff. However, there is no doubt that the pandemic has articulated attention towards the implementation and utilisation of technology.

As an industry, it is our responsibility to make a commitment to care for those entrusted to care for our loved ones. If we make that commitment, then everything else will fall in line. If we go staff first, then we are already looking at better environments.
