London wallcovering outfit ATADesigns has won an award for its music wall mural at Towerview Care’s Trent Court care home in Burton upon Trent.
ATADesigns won the Solutions for Wide Format prize at Earth Island Publishing’s Solutions Awards 2021.
The Trent Court brief was to create a design to brighten up a long, magnolia-coloured corridor wall linking to male residents' activity rooms.
Inspired by Towerview’s attempt to create a music wall featuring black and white A4 photocopies of Elvis Presley and music notes on the wall, the new design is not only colourful but also stimulating and evokes memory.
ATADesigns did lots of research before creating the mural. This included checking the age range of the male residents, which was between the 1930s and 1960s.
The wall comprised suitable music icons including Elvis Presley, Doris Day and The Beatles.
The mural was digitally printed on Fabtex. This is a heavyweight fabric with a small amount of PVC on the face for printing, and has a smooth cloth texture that is waterproof.
UV cured water-based inks were used making them durable and scratch- and fade-resistant. The mural can be cleaned with commercial cleaning agents without degradation.
ATADesigns worked in conjunction with the printers Wallsmiths on the project.
