Lovell Later Living’s new extra care facility in West Ardsley, Leeds, has achieved the topping out phase of construction.
The 63 one- and two-bed extra care apartments are being developed alongside a range of on-site communal facilities.
The scheme, Amblers Orchard, forms the first phase of Leeds City Council’s ambitious extra care housing programme, which will see seven buildings built to provide homes to over 400 senior residents.
The extra care facility will be designed using dementia friendly interior design, to assist with wayfinding and to help residents better understand the environment they are in.
Communal spaces will include a salon and café that will be open to the public, encouraging residents to actively participate in the local community and not become isolated.
All apartments are to be let on an affordable rent basis and residents will also benefit from affordable rent and a 24/7 support team, allowing them to live independently, with the peace of mind of knowing the support is there if they need it.
Amblers Orchard is being delivered in partnership with Leeds City Council and will be owned and operated by one of the UK’s leading providers of housing, health and social care, Home Group. Torsion Group are the lead contractor on the scheme.
Lovell Later Living interim managing director John Leary said: “Extra care housing is primarily for people who have some care and support needs, are no longer able to live unaided in their own home and may previously have had to enter full-time residential care.
“However, schemes such as this at Amblers Orchard, are essential for providing that additional support, while still giving residents the ability to preserve their independence in a safe and homely environment that facilitates social interaction.”
The apartments are scheduled to be completed by July.
