Lancashire County Council has filed proposals to build a later living scheme consisting of a 45-bed care home and 65-apartment extra care development in Garstang.
The new care home will replace the old and outdated home. It will offer an up to date and modern environment for residents, including people with dementia.
The extra care scheme will provide flexible support for older people. It will include self-contained flats where people have their own lounge, bedroom and kitchen. There will also be communal facilities.
The facilities will replace the existing Bowgreave Rise Home for Older People, with the new care home will be opened and brought into operation before the existing home is closed.
This will ensure people at the existing home continue to receive the support they need throughout the process.
“We’ve submitted our plans for these modern care facilities, which will help improve care for older people and people with dementia in the area,” said Lancashire County Council cabinet member for adult services Graham Gooch.
“There will now be a consultation where residents, their families, local people and other interested parties can share their views on the planning application for the home, which includes the design for the buildings,” he added.
The application is being considered through Lancashire County Council’s planning process.
The Garstang plans were drawn up with the assistance of PRP Architects.
