A new on-demand service to get care home residents stretching, singing and socializing has been launched by wellbeing business Oomph!.
The Oomph! On Demand exercise classes and activities will be streamed into UK care homes as part of the social enterprise’s mission to “enhance the minds, bodies and souls of residents” during the pandemic.
Oomph! On Demand’s launch offering includes sports sessions such as slipper soccer and seated volleyball, designed with national sports bodies including Volleyball England, Boccia UK and the English Cricket Board.
Exercise activities adapted for different health conditions with experts from Arthritis Action and the University of Exeter are also included, as are language lessons with Lingo Flamingo, which aims to make language learning accessible for all and improve the lives of those living with dementia.
In addition there is a newly commissioned comedy performance about Henry VIII, as well as singalongs, music therapy sessions, drama workshops, virtual tours of stunning landscapes, cookery inspiration and how to craft activities.
The service will also increase the audience for nature workshops developed previously with the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew.
The project is being championed by Care England, the largest representative body for independent providers of adult social care and the National Care Forum (NCF), the membership body for not for profit care providers.
“This great new platform is really innovative and it is also well tailored to life during and beyond the pandemic,” said Care England chief executive Professor Martin Green.
“We know that activities and exercise are so important for all and it’s exciting to have a means to bring such energy to all care homes up and down the country,” he added.
Oomph! on Demand is available to care homes for unlimited use at £95/month with discounts available to members of NCF and Care England. For enquiries or to request a live demo of Oomph! On Demand contact Julie@thinkcomms.co.uk or sam@thinkcomms.co.uk.
