HC-One recruits infection control army to defend care homes

HC-One, the UK’s largest care provider, has established an ‘Infection Control Army’ to protect residents, staff and visitors against Covid-19.

The so-called army consists of over 800 HC-One employees from across its care home network.

Each recruit has completed high-level infection control training to coach, train and mentor all staff on measures on an ongoing basis, and uphold cleaning standards to keep residents, colleagues and visitors safe.

Every HC-One care home has a ‘Housekeeping Champion’ and a ‘Care and Clinical Champion’, who are also members of the Infection Control Army.

Their responsibilities include ensuring all colleagues remain confident in the infection control measures in place, including the effective use of PPE, regular handwashing and social distancing as well as enhanced cleaning and decontamination procedures.

They are also supporting colleagues with ongoing training and competency assessments supporting the network of champions with any queries they may have.

“We would like to say a special thank you to all of our colleagues who have put themselves forward to be part of the HC-One Infection Control Army and who are leading the way in protecting our residents and staff  against the virus,” said HC-One director of standards and Covid-19 lead Liz Whyte (pictured).
