Care England has told Parliament that health and social care need to be integrated as a result of the Covid-19 crisis.
In evidence submitted to the House of Lords Covid-19 Committee select committee, Care England said the pandemic has demonstrated the interdependence of the health and social care system, and the organisations that operate across the system.
“The Covid-19 has brought to light the essential role of adult social care. This impetus for change needs to be harnessed, not forgotten, in order to facilitate a fully integrated health and social care system,” chief executive Martin Green (pictured) said.
In evidence submitted to the committee’s Life Beyond COVID inquiry, Care England said the pandemic has acted as a catalyst for change by facilitating new relationships between primary and social care organisations.
England’s largest representative body for independent providers of adult social care maintains that “the CQC (Care Quality Commission) must move to promote these new relationships by moving to a system-based approach”, it added.
Green added: “The pandemic has shown us that the social care workforce is the sector’s greatest resource.
"There is a need to recognise the efforts of health and care professionals as a whole nation. These are the heroes on the frontline leading the fight against Covid-19."
