Leading care home meals provider apetito is to host a free dysphagia awareness webinar next week.
The Dysphagia & IDDSI (International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative) Awareness webinar takes place on Thursday 27 August from 2pm to 3pm.
The session will be hosted by apetito dietitians Emily Stuart and Declan Henderson.
The webinar aims to build understanding of dysphagia and its effects, and highlight the physical, emotional and nutritional challenges swallowing difficulties pose to residents.
In addition the session will introduce the IDDSI framework for texture modified food.
The apetito dieticians will also offer further free support to care home catering teams regarding dysphagia, IDDSI and texture modified food.
“At apetito we understand that living with dysphagia can have a profound impact on the residents in your homes. Often, residents experiencing dysphagia may encounter unintended weight loss, challenges with eating and drinking, disinterest in food and reductions in dignity and quality of life,” the company said.
“It is for these reasons, apetito are committed raising awareness of this condition and supporting our partners to better understand the risks that swallowing difficulties can present,” it added.
