Scots give nod to care home in Aberdeen hotel grounds

The Scottish government has given the green light to plans by Meallmore to build a 65-bed care home in the grounds of a hotel in Aberdeen.

Permission was granted by Holyrood following an appeal by the care provider against Aberdeen City Council’s refusal of the scheme last December.

The local authority voted down the proposals due to fears about the potential burden on local healthcare provision.

In approving the Marcliffe scheme, Holyrood officials imposed a condition on Meallmore to make a financial contribution towards local healthcare facilities, as well as cash for open space and footpath improvements, the upgrading of bus stop facilities, plus a ‘green travel plan’.

The development at the Marcliffe Hotel and Spa consists of L-shaped care home of up to four storeys.

Proposed facilities include private cinema, hair and beauty salon, café, dining room and lounges.
