A planning application to develop a retirement community consisting of around 60 dwellings and 20-bed nursing home has been filed with Aberdeen City Council.
Consultants Halliday Fraser Munro submitted the plans on behalf of client Shona Buyers, who wants to develop the project at Binghill House in Milltimber, located six miles west of Aberdeen.
Planning documents showed the Binghill House development features cottages and apartments designed for over-60s to be built in extensive gardens.
The proposed dwellings will be mostly one-and-and-half storeys but no higher than two storeys and will comprise a mixture of one-and two-bedroom apartments and cottages and three-bed cottages and houses.
Plans include a small shop and café, as well as community allotments to be made available to residents and members of the public.
Other communal facilities are set to include play areas for visiting children, tennis court, woodland walks, and formal gardens.
Halliday Fraser Munro said the proposed development will be “unique in Aberdeen” by co-locating independent retirement properties with a nursing home.
“The vision for the development comes from the applicant’s personal experience of navigating the senior living accommodation market. When looking for care accommodation for her ageing parents, one who required nursing care and one who could still live independently but wanted to be close to his partner she discovered there was no such offering in Aberdeen,” said Halliday Fraser Munro in a statement.
“The realisation that others would be in a similar position and recognising the strain this scenario puts on families she has set out to create a development where residents care is flexible and fits around the different needs of partners allowing them to stay together as they age,” it added.
