New research from the Mental Health Foundation (MHF) has revealed feelings of loneliness in UK adults has jumped dramatically following the outbreak of Covid-19.
One in ten (10 per cent) UK adults felt lonely before the pandemic, but this figure has jumped to one in four (24 per cent) following lockdown. The mental health impact of this crisis is being felt by many but it is especially evident in the care sector, as vulnerable and shielded care residents face continued social distancing restrictions.
Of the more than 850,000 people in the UK receiving state-funded social care, many have been shielding in a bid to contain the pandemic.
