The number of deaths involving Covid-19 in care homes in England and Wales has risen to 14,652 - an increase of 254 on the previous week - according to the latest data published by the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
In England, the number of deaths involving Covid-19 in care homes that were registered by 19 June was 13,982, up 247 from a week earlier. The previous weekly rise in England was 367 and prior to that 540 and 686.
In Wales, the total number of care home deaths was 670 as of 19 June, up seven on last week. The previous weekly rise in Wales was nine and prior to that 28 and 35.
In total, ONS data showed 49,371 involving Covid-19 occurred in England and Wales up to 19 June, up 833 from a week earlier. The previous weekly rise was 789 and 2,001 before that.
Data compiled by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) meanwhile showed 132 deaths from Covid-19 in England in the week up to 26 June and a total of 12,211 notified since 10 April.
Whereas the ONS reports deaths where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate, the CQC notifications rely on the statement of the care home provider that the virus was suspected or confirmed.
The Care Inspectorate Wales meanwhile recorded 497 deaths involving Covid-19 in care homes in Wales since 17 March, of which six occurred in the week up to 26 June.
