McCarthy & Stone stepping forward with Harrogate scheme

Retirement living developer McCarthy & Stone has won consent to build a 52-apartment extra care facility at an existing care home site in Harrogate in North Yorkshire.

Harrogate Borough Council planners backed the plans to redevelop the derelict care home at Greenfield Court.

The plans include replacing all the current buildings with 33 one-bedroom and 19 two-bedroom apartments, all including a range of specialised features and adaptations such as wheelchair accessible doors, electric sockets, level threshold showers and 24-hour emergency alarm system.

Facilities to be provided include a home-owner lounge/bistro served by a commercial kitchen, mobility scooter store with charging facilities, refuse store and laundry facilities.

In addition, the redeveloped Greenfield Court will include a guest suite.

McCarthy & Stone anticipates the development will create 17 permanent jobs.
