Infection Prevention Society launches free training package for care homes

The Infection Prevention Society (IPS) has released training slides for carers to provide a summary of procedures required to protect residents from Covid-19.

The set of 33 slides training slides have been prepared in conjunction with the IPS Care Home Special Interest Group and are aligned to UK coronavirus guidance.

The IPS said the slides have been designed to be understood easily and provide information that is relevant to the needs of those working in the care home sector.

The slides provide an overview of coronavirus, symptoms and transmission and the key elements of infection prevention and control including personal protective equipment (PPE), hand hygiene and managing the environment, it added.

“We understand how challenging it is for care home staff to cope with Covid-19 and we hope that this simple guide to best practice will help support them to deliver effective and safe care for the most vulnerable people in our society,” said IPS vice-president Professor Jennie Wilson.

The training slides entitled ‘Coronavirus (Covid-19) Infection Prevention & Control for Nursing & Residential Care Homes’ are available to download at https://bit.ly/IPSCareHome.
