A groundbreaking ceremony has been held to mark the start of construction work on a new residential care home in Bingham in Nottinghamshire.
The three-storey care home now under construction will replace the redundant police station on Grantham Road and feature a residents’ lounges, a hair/beauty salon, cinema room and other extensive communal facilities, along with residents’ gardens.
HC-One, which operates more than 300 care homes across the UK, will take up the tenancy of the 70-bed care home once it has been completed in 2021. This will be a second facility in Bingham for the operator.
Last year, Rushcliffe Borough Council granted planning permission for the development on the site of the former police station following an application by Edwalton-based Charterpoint Senior Living. Nottingham-based consulting engineers Howard Ward Associates (HWA) has provided pre-purchase, due diligence and pre-planning engineering services in connection with the development.
Charterpoint director Giles Nursey says: “Using sector specialist expertise, Charterpoint Senior Living spent considerable time and effort on creating a bespoke, attractive plan for a care home on this site, taking into account the views of neighbours, town and ward councillors and with the knowledge that a previous application for a care home by another company had earlier been refused.
“We are delighted that Rushcliffe Borough Council gave its support to our scheme and that a professional, well-regarded care home operator like HC-One is to run the facility, once it has been built. The site has been vacant for some time and this care home development will not only bring a brownfield plot back into use, it will also provide high-quality, bespoke care home facilities for the local community. We now look forward to seeing it come to fruition.”
In 2018, Darlington-based HC-One was awarded a number of accolades at the National Care Awards, including Care Home Group of the Year, Home Manager of the Year and Dignity and Respect Care Home of the Year.
Justin Hutchens, chief executive at HC-One, says: “HC-One is on a mission to be the first-choice care provider for older people and the employer of choice for the kindest and most professional care workers. We are therefore delighted to be working with Charterpoint Senior Living and Rushcliffe Borough Council to expand the reach of our high-quality care services in Bingham. New developments like this are crucial as they address the growing demand for care home places in this country.”
Dan Bailey, director at HWA, says: “We are pleased to be working on this project to develop a valuable care facility for the local community in Bingham. We’re proud to be very active in the Nottinghamshire area and within the care construction industry.”
With construction work now underway on site, the care home is expected to open in summer 2021.
