Burnham Lodge, a Buckinghamshire care home run by Hartford Care, has received an overall 'good' rating from the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
Following an inspection on 11 and 12 November 2019, the character, rurally-located care home was awarded five 'good' stars and highly praised for its “warm, friendly interactions from staff towards people” and for how residents “were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives”.
Residents, their relatives and staff at the care home in Parliament Lane, Burnham, are delighted with the outcome.
The CQC report provides details to demonstrate the quality of life for those for whom Burnham Lodge is home.
Friendliness and the caring attitude of the staff was recorded: “People received care and support from staff who knew and understood their care and support needs. People and relatives felt they were able to express their views and staff ensured their privacy and dignity was maintained, and their independence promoted.”
Burnham Lodge especially prides itself on the choices it offers residents including those at mealtimes.
The report noted: “People who chose to eat in their bedrooms were not left waiting. Staff in the dining room were attentive to people’s needs. The chef was observant of when people had finished their starter and served their main promptly. The chef was knowledgeable about people’s dietary requirements and likes and dislikes. Menus provided choice and the chef said if people changed their mind, this was facilitated as extra portions were always prepared, or alternatives provided as people wished.”
The handsome 49 bedroomed care home on the Berkshire/Buckinghamshire border, set in acres of beautiful countryside, also offers day care. An extensive programme of refurbishment has recently been carried out throughout Burnham Lodge’s public rooms including the conservatory, the focal point of its activities, the reception area and dining room. Residents were fully involved in choosing the wallpaper, colour schemes and furniture for each of the rooms.
Catherine Emekwuo, Burnham Lodge registered manager, says: “I feel really proud of our achievement as we have all worked really hard to make sure that our residents live their lives to the fullest within a safe and secure environment.
“I am thrilled that Burnham Lodge has received such a positive rating especially for its warmth and friendliness. I am incredibly proud of my caring and compassionate team who play such a huge part in delivering quality care to our residents 24/7 and supporting them in their daily lives. Burnham Lodge is their home, so it was important to us that they were fully involved with helping us choose the colour schemes and décor for all their communal rooms.”
Sean Gavin, CEO of Hartford Care, adds: “Huge congratulations to Catherine and the team at Burnham Lodge for this terrific inspection result. I know the team has worked tirelessly to ensure that the quality of care offered is of the highest standard. When I walk into Burnham Lodge, I am so proud to see the residents enjoying their beautiful new surroundings, the dedicated team there contributing so much to their quality of life and wellbeing.”
