Wintry weather brings new challenges, from keeping premises accessible to planning for when staff may be unable to get to work due to heavy snowfall. It is therefore necessary to put measures in place to keep residents, staff and visitors safe. So, what steps can you take to keep your business operational and protect those living in, working at and visiting your home throughout the winter months?
A mistake many businesses in all sectors make is gritting after ice or snow has already begun to form. Grit is best used as a preventive measure. When applied to the site prior to the arrival of freezing conditions, salt essentially inhibits the formation of ice.
Gritting surfaces that are already showing signs of ice formation means the salt must work much harder to clear the ice. If snow falls, the salt that is already on the ground will inhibit some accumulation or will aid snow removal by creating a saline barrier between the snow and the surface.
