Exemplar Health Care’s specialist nursing care home, St Andrew’s Court in west Hull near Gipsyville, has been officially opened by the Lord Mayor of Kingston upon Hull.
The Lord Mayor of Kingston upon Hull, Councillor Steve Wilson, was invited to cut the ribbon and unveil a plaque, marking the official opening of the home. The care home has undergone a £1.25 million refurbishment to meet the complex needs of its adult service users.
During a tour of St Andrew’s Court, the Lord Mayor greeted and spoke with residents at St Andrew’s Court, and met with colleagues. The home supports adults who live with complex conditions including dementia, mental health conditions, physical and neuro-disabilities, brain injury and stroke.
Laid out over two floors, and with a two-bedroom house next door, St Andrew’s Court can support a total of 20 adults. The home comprises 18 large, airy bedrooms, each with an en-suite bathroom. The care home includes two dining rooms, several communal living areas and a landscaped garden designed by young local volunteers from Youth in Nature, a lottery-funded wildlife organisation.
The home also benefits from Exemplar Health Care’s reablement pathway, OneCare, which is a two-bedroom house adjacent to St Andrew’s Court where individuals are supported to live more independently through rehabilitation and enabling activities.
The Lord Mayor of Kingston upon Hull, Steve Wilson, said: “I am absolutely delighted to be here for the opening of St Andrew’s Court. The team at Exemplar Health Care have done a fantastic job in converting the care home with such a high standard, and it’s fantastic to see so many locals working and supporting the care home.
"I had the opportunity to take a tour and to see first-hand that every room is personalised and tailored to each service user, and that the care workers and nurses are committed to offering the best care. St Andrew’s Court represents the future of all care homes and the service users are so deserving of a home like this one.”
Kath Dye, commissioning home director of St Andrew's Court, said: “We’re so thrilled to have opened St Andrew’s Court and to have received a warm welcome from the Lord Mayor of Kingston upon Hull.
"Our goal at St Andrew’s Court was to employ as many local people as possible – and we are pleased that we have been able to retain existing staff as well as recruiting local nurses, carers and using businesses associated to the previous home and the local area.
"We have a one team approach which means all our colleagues have a real passion for ensuring we deliver excellent person-centred care, and they have all adapted brilliantly to help provide good team work and a special home to our service users.
“We’re also really pleased that some service users have been able to relocate from other regional Exemplar Health Care Homes to St Andrew’s Court – meaning they can now be closer to family living in Hull. It really means the world to us.”
