Cornerstone to develop new service

Cornerstone Healthcare Group has announced the development of a 42-bed care centre in Surrey to add to its portfolio of specialist care homes.

Marula Lodge will provide care for adults with challenging behaviours associated with complex neurological, physical and mental health needs.

The home in Camberley will add to Cornerstone’s existing services in Hampshire; South Africa Lodge in Waterlooville and Kitnocks House in Curdridge.

The multimillion pound state of the art project will increase the group’s beds to 200 and launch the next phase in the company’s ambitious five-year growth plan to have 500 beds by the end of 2024.

Group chief executive Mr Johann van Zyl says: “This project gives us the opportunity to offer a much needed service in Surrey and the surrounding areas. Demand for our care model continues to be high with our existing services nearly always at capacity.”

Greg Pounds, Cornerstone’s general manager business development, says: “Our approach, before we open a service in a new area, is to understand the local need. We’ve been working closely with commissioning groups and local branches of support organisations who identified significant demand for the kind of care we provide.”

This new development has been designed by architects Ian Holmes and Danny Sharpe from residential care specialist NorthStar. The property transaction was facilitated by Cushman Wakefield and Christie & Co.

The project will create more than 100 jobs locally and is due for completion in autumn 2020.
