People with dementia often experience feelings of insecurity and anxiety, but treating them like family is one of the most important elements of providing care that genuinely improves quality of life outcomes, says Helen Walton, head of operations, Church Farm Care

People living with dementia often experience feelings of insecurity and anxiety and can be unsettled by changes to their surroundings. They may also struggle to express how they are feeling and why. This means that care services must provide more than task-based care; they should connect with people on an emotional level.

Church Farm Care is a family owned company with homes in Cotgrave, West Bridgford and Radcliffe on Trent, Nottinghamshire. The company invites people who are considering moving into a care home to visit, which has proven to be a very beneficial way for someone living with dementia to transition into a home, as well as providing peace of mind for families and loved ones. 

Staff believe that treating residents as if they are family is one of the most important factors in providing dementia care with good quality of life outcomes
