Changing the environment to enhance quality of life

Creating a dementia friendly environment does not have to mean incurring significant cost. By implementing simple, well thought out changes, an environment that enhances quality of life can be easily achieved, says Rob Windsor-Hey, business development manager at Find Memory Care

Imagine being in an environment in which every door looks the same and everyday tasks such as finding the bedroom, going to the toilet and washing become stressful. Imagine sitting in the same chair, in the same room, doing the same thing day in and day out.

With many care homes being forced to tighten their budgets, implementing environmental changes is sometimes hard to keep at the top of the agenda. However, with 850,000 people living with dementia in the UK, 60 per cent of whom are receiving care, introducing a dementia friendly environment is a significant factor in the care and treatment of residents.
