An affordable, future-proof network dedicated to care homes with robust connectivity fit for running specialist care and leisure services
Wireless Internet specialist Vital Wifi (www.vitalwifi.com) has launched SeniorConnect, a dedicated Wi-Fi system and service for care homes which is accredited by government-initiated Friendly WiFi (www.friendlywifi.com) and provides 100% coverage with 24/7 remote monitoring suitable for running sophisticated wireless care and leisure services. It has also published a guide for care home owners on “The Connected Care Home” highlighting how Wi-Fi can improve residents’ well-being and increase efficiency and care delivery in the care home or retirement village.
‘Fast Wi-Fi/broadband’ topped the list of what’s important, ahead of ‘gardens’, in findings published by The Housing Learning and Improvement Network (LIN) in a survey carried out by Silk Road where it concluded ‘Older people shun pools and spas in favour of Wi-Fi and greenery when it comes to retirement living’.
Wi-Fi rated as preferable to gardens by residents
In its survey of 200 people aged 70+ they sought to find out what older people want and need in their retirement living arrangements, to help assist decision making in building retirement homes.
Similar findings were reported by the Daily Express in a survey by housing provider Anchor which found that Wi-Fi is one of the biggest factors in selecting a retirement home.
Mike Davies at Friendly WiFi comments, “SeniorConnect’s Wi-Fi portal is perfect for care homes: as with all Friendly Wifi approved content filtering solutions, it ensures safe connectivity for users. And with Vital’s remote monitoring, care homes can benefit from a trouble-free service. Such a tailored configuration should suit the most demanding of care homes’ requirements.”
Before care and nursing homes rush to install broadband, they may wish to take stock as to what features they should have. Getting it wrong may be a costly mistake.
But as with many technological advances, it can be a minefield trying to find a balance between features and value for money. Advice can be found in Vital Wifi’s article “Wi-Fi issues to consider for a care home”.
