Home reaches 'topping out' stage

A new care home development in Eastbourne celebrated a major milestone with a recent topping out ceremony.

The occasion marked the completion of the latest stage of the 80-bed care home where the final tile was laid and the final brick was fitted.

The new home, officially named Mortain Place Care Home, has been built by McGoff Construction Ltd, and is owned and operated by Barchester Healthcare. The home will provide high quality residential and dementia care for older people in the community of Eastbourne. The home is set to open its doors to residents for the first time this autumn.

The luxury new home will feature en-suite bedrooms with smart TVs, spa bathrooms, an inhouse hair salon and Wi-Fi available in all parts of the home. Just a stone’s throw from the city centre, the home is conveniently located directly opposite the Sovereign Harbour Marina and Sovereign Harbour Retail Park, close to a wide selection of restaurants, retail outlets, cinema, pharmacy and local post office.

Lesley Standing, the newly appointed general manager for the home, says: "The topping out ceremony brings us a step closer to the day we welcome residents. I would like to thank everyone locally for the warm welcome we have already received and look forward to extending our hospitality to the local community when our marketing suite opens in June for anyone who might have questions about care.”

McGoff Construction contracts manager; John Redford, comments: “We were delighted to reach such a significant stage in the build process today. It was a pleasure to share the occasion with our project partner Barchester Healthcare. We look forward to handing over the marketing suite in the next few weeks, which will allow finished aspects of the care home to be showcased.”

Mark Bennett, the director of property services at Barchester, says, “This is our seventh project with McGoffs and we couldn’t be more pleased. After launching and opening our first home constructed by them last summer in Lichfield, we were recently named a finalist in the Pinders Healthcare Design Award just for the design.

"Each new build uses a bespoke Barchester Healthcare design that has incorporated learning from all levels of the business, including customers and carers. This was to ensure each of our homes are not only safe, comfortable and welcoming, but luxurious, spacious and thoughtful.

"The home's design will not only allow our team members to provide the best level of care for the residents who live there, but also ensure the residents are able to live dignified lives in surroundings that allow them to be as independent as they choose to be.”

Barchester Healthcare’s Eastbourne care home will open in October 2019 and will deliver personalised residential care, as well as personalised dementia care in Barchester’s unique Memory Lane Community.
