Residents at an HC-One care home in Stockport dusted off their binoculars last weekend to celebrate 40 years of the Big Garden Birdwatch.
Staff and residents at Newlands Care Home on Heaton Moor Road were joined by students from St Thomas’ CE Primary School to prepare for the nature event.
The children from year five, together with residents, built their own bird boxes, read bird stories and played a variety of nature board games.
During the weekend, staff and residents found a cosy window spot and spent time spotting different species of birds in their garden.
The RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch has also celebrated its 40th birthday. More than eight million birds were recorded across the UK during the 2018 Birdwatch.
Michelle Pepworth, HC-One care home manager, says: “This event provided the perfect opportunity for our residents to enjoy observing wildlife in the garden and share that enjoyment with children from the local primary school.
“Intergenerational activities have so many benefits and it’s always lovely to see the resident's faces light up when the children arrive.”
Situated within Newlands, the Beeches Suite opened in August and offers luxurious hotel style accommodation throughout, including premier and deluxe premier rooms.
