DWA Architects has submitted a planning application to Waverley District Council to extend a specialist dementia facility at Langham Court on the outskirts of Hindhead, Surrey.
The 10-bed extension is set over two floors to create additional small homely accommodation in line with latest dementia thinking. The extension will add to the existing 30 rooms, which is owned by the Huntington and Langham Estate.
The original building was completed and opened in late 2013 with DWA acting as architect and in 2015 the facility won a special award from Waverley District Council in respect of its innovative design approach to care.
David Ward, managing director of DWA Architects, comments: “These plans for an extension will build on the excellent facilities that are at the cutting edge of dementia care in the UK. The principles behind the extension build on the innovative design features that were included in the award-winning original design.”
It is hoped that once planning approval is obtained to progress to the next stage so that the extension could be built later this year.
