York architect shortlisted for award

Four care projects that York-based DWA Architects has worked on have been shortlisted for awards in this year’s Pinders Healthcare Design Awards.

The awards promote and recognise achievement in design and development in all care related properties and are highly sought after.

Astbury Manor in Bracknell, Berkshire on behalf of Avery Healthcare has been nominated in the Best New Care Home (Higher Development Budget); Askham Grove, near March in Cambridgeshire has been nominated in the Best Design for Younger Adults; The Hawthorns Northampton, also on behalf of Avery Healthcare, has been nominated in the Best Independent Living category and Holdingham Grange in Lincolnshire, for Glenholme Health Care Group, has been shortlisted in the Best New Care Home (Lower Development Budget) category.

DWA Architects has already won 11 Pinders Awards since 2006 for projects across the country.

Commenting on the shortlisting, David Ward, managing director of DWA Architects says: “We are proud recipients of previous Pinders Awards, and we are pleased to be nominated again this year. This is the culmination of years of hard work and creativity from the team here at DWA. It builds on the strong track record and reputation for quality in the care sector we have built up over the last 30 years.”

Astbury Manor in Berkshire is a stunning purpose-built facility, thoughtfully designed to create a true home from home for residential, respite and dementia care clients. Externally, Astbury Manor’s design has been influenced by the local area, replacing a two storey office building. Internally, the facility has been designed around a central hub which assists with wayfinding. Communal areas afford views of landscaped gardens.

Holdingham Grange is a new care home in Sleaford Lincolnshire.  It has been designed and built around a large central courtyard and includes features to ensure it provides the best possible environment for care, and also includes extensive landscaped gardens.

The Hawthorns Northampton is a new all-inclusive retirement village offering residents an active and independent retirement lifestyle.  The complex features a café, spa, cinema room and library.

The Pinders Healthcare Design Awards aim to promote and recognise the very best developments in all types of care-related property, whilst the Award categories seek to acknowledge the contribution made by home owners, designers and architects to the well being and quality of life for those in their care.  The winners will be announced at a ceremony in London on the 13 March.
