A Bagpiper and Irish dancers descended on HC-One’s Newlands care home in Stockport recently to mark the 103rd birthday of resident, Margaret Mair.
The centenarian was joined by her daughter, staff and children from the 0-2-5 Nursery in Heaton Mersey to celebrate the special day. The youngsters treated the birthday girl to a selection of songs and dances and painted a Scottish flag to honour Margaret’s homeland.
Celtic music flowed through the home for the day as Irish dancers performed, while the bagpiper entertained guests with traditional Scottish music from Margaret’s childhood.
Michelle Pepworth, HC-One care home manager at Newlands, comments: ‘It was an honour for us to celebrate Margaret’s 103rd birthday with her and we all had a really enjoyable day.
“Margaret is an incredible woman who has clearly had a very active life. She couldn't hide her enjoyment at watching the nursery children singing and said 'They are all wonderful'.”
Born in Macduff, a small coastal town in the county of Aberdeenshire, Margaret worked as a silver service waitress in a hotel and a Spirella corset agent, and married the same man twice! She spent her retirement in Stockport, moving to Newlands Care Home in November 2014.
Situated in the peaceful residential area of Heaton Moor, Newlands offers residential and nursing care, as well as the premiere ‘Beeches Suite,’ which offers luxury hotel style accommodation.
The Beeches Suite opened in August and hosts a variety of activities and events, including a recent Remembrance event where the home was lit up with falling poppies.
