Hosting Mind And Natter Day

Borough Care held a Mind and Natter Day for staff at each of its 11 homes, to coincide with World Mental Health Day.

World Mental Health Day, held on 10 October each year, aims to raise awareness of mental health issues and highlight what needs to be done to make mental health care a reality for people worldwide. The day also provides an opportunity for people to talk openly about mental health concerns.

Every year one in four adults will have a mental health issue. According to UK estimates, only about one-fourth of those with mental health problems undergo ongoing treatment.

Borough Care set up the Mind and Natter sessions at each of its homes, to give staff the opportunity to talk about any subject in an informal environment. Staff can either discuss issues that are on their minds or things that are concerning them on a one to one basis or in a group session. Staff take time out of their usual daily routine to chat about a wide range of topics.

Sophie Gardiner, area support at Borough Care, says: “We’re had incredibly positive feedback from the Mind and Natter Day, which was really well received. Staff have asked if we can do a similar session each month so going forward we’re going to be introducing a wellbeing afternoon in all of our homes.”
