Staff complete 13 mile charity run

Staff from various Barchester Healthcare care homes throughout the UK put the ‘fun’ into ‘fundraising’ by participating in the Great North Run, the annual half marathon between Newcastle and South Shields on 9 September.

The team of five managed to raise £700 for Barchester’s Charitable Foundation. Alastair Kirk, Ruth Langslands, Fiona Dundas, Adam Moore and Jack Titterton all completed the 13.1 mile run, with Jack racing ahead, closely followed by Adam and then Fiona.

The team was in good company, with the 57,000 other runners who took also part in the annual half marathon between Newcastle and South Shields. As ever, fun runners followed in the footsteps of the world’s elite distance athletes with Sir Mo Farah sealing a record breaking fifth victory in the men's event. The Olympian reached the finish line in an impressive 59 minutes and 26 seconds.

Henriette Dupont, grants manager for Barchester’s Charitable Foundation, says: “We are very proud of our team members who represented the charity during the race.

"After the run, our team enjoyed a well earned drink and rest with family and friends, and despite the ache of running a half marathon, the team crossed the finish line with determination supported by the many fans who cheered them on from the side lines."

"Barchester’s Charitable Foundation helps many people in need, and the cause is very close to the hearts of all Barchester staff and residents, so we feel really proud to have been able to raise this money. Thank you to the team and everyone who donated!”
