Students visit Sunrise of Eastbourne

Sunrise of Eastbourne residents were delighted to be visited by a group of 15-17 year old students from local schools across Eastbourne, who are using their summer holidays to take part in an exciting Government funded project.

The National Citizen Service (NCS) is a challenging out of school experience that provides young people with the opportunity to embark on a two-week project to identify and tackle some of the biggest issues within their local community while building skills for work and life. Eastbourne’s NCS students have been dedicating their time to plan a project that allows them to do just that while raising money for the charity Mind.

After meeting with local MP Stephen Lloyd, the group decided they wanted to use their time to spread positive messages throughout the community. They took to Eastbourne town centre to speak to local people and collect messages of positivity about life. The students then reproduced these quotes onto vibrant and creative artwork which they personally delivered to the thrilled residents at Sunrise of Eastbourne. The students received an enthusiastic round of applause as they unveiled their work and their pride was clear to see.

Reflecting on the artwork, one resident at Sunrise remarked: “It’s wonderful – it looks so bright and cheery and has such lovely messages.”

The students stayed for a while to talk to residents about their project and the impressive 16-mile sponsored walk they had just completed for Mind, which has contributed to the raising of around £300.

The artwork is now on display in pride of place in the Sunrise of Eastbourne bistro as a symbol of unity between the community and the generations of Eastbourne.
