Staff at Borough Care’s Shepley House in Hazel Grove have recently completed the Oomph! wellness training programme.
Borough Care, at not for profit provider of care for older people in Stockport, has partnered with Oomph! to carry out training for staff at its residential homes. Oomph! provides training and support, to enable care home staff to deliver high quality exercise, activities and days out for residents.
Borough Care has 11 homes across Stockport and Shepley House staff are the first to participate in the Oomph! wellness training. Fourteen members of the Shepley House team, including the home manager, completed the three day training session, which incorporated exercise and wellbeing activities.
Borough Care staff at Bamford Close in Cale Green will be next to undergo training, with their course commencing in September.
Initially, three exercise sessions will take place at Shepley House each week, with the sessions gradually increasing to daily. Staff who have completed the Oomph! training will lead residents through a story during exercise. Each session will have a different theme and is designed to be fun and interactive. Props and music will be used to further bring the story to life.
Regular exercise helps improve the physical and mental health of older people, along with their wellbeing. The Oomph! sessions are part of a regular programme of exercise and social activities that Borough Care arranges for its residents to participate in.
