Residents stay active with table tennis

Residents at RMBI home Devonshire Court in Leicester have been donated dementia-friendly table tennis equipment to help them keep active.

The table made by health and wellbeing charity BAT Foundation, Bounce Alzheimer's Therapy, is specifically designed to enable those living with dementia to enjoy table tennis. To counter the visual difficulties some people with dementia experience, the table is white and balls are orange to create a clear contrast. There are also side borders that help with concentration and increase spatial awareness.

The BAT Therapy Table was donated to the home by the Mark Benevolent Fund of the Mark Master Masons and is proving popular among residents at Devonshire Court.

Activities co-ordinator Claire Barrett says: "We always try to offer different activities to support residents to keep active and enjoy life at the Home. The BAT Therapy Table is a great addition to our activities programme and residents love playing matches of table tennis.

"We are very grateful to the Mark Benevolent Fund for presenting us with the table, as it supports the health and wellbeing of our residents living with dementia, as well as helps them to socialise."
