Quality of care rated 'outstanding'

The Care Quality Commission has found the quality of care provided by Foxgrove Residential Home in Felixstowe, Suffolk, to be 'outstanding' following an inspection in April.

Foxgrove Residential Home accommodates up to 24 older people in one adapted building.

Inspectors found staff were caring and compassionate and people were being provided with safe, responsive, caring, effective and well-led care.

Under CQC’s programme of inspections, all adult social care services are being given a rating according to whether they are safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led. Foxgrove Residential Home is rated 'outstanding' for being caring and well-led, and 'good' for being responsive, safe and effective.

Jemima Burnage, CQC’s head of inspection for adult social care in the central region says: “Our inspection team was really impressed by the level of care and support offered to people at Foxgrove Residential Home, which we found gave them an enhanced sense of quality of life and wellbeing.

“Without exception, people were provided with an exceptionally caring service. People's diversity was respected and all people were treated equally regardless of their specific needs and culture. The actions of the staff in the service demonstrated to people that they mattered and were valued.

“People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible.

“Staff spoke about and to people in a compassionate manner. They knew people well and about how their needs were met, they also understood why it was important to respect people at all times.

“A staff member told us how they felt that the service provided an excellent service to people at all times. They gave examples of several people who had used the service who were related to staff which passed the "Mum test."

“All of this meant people received a high standard of care, which is why it has been rated 'outstanding'.”

Andrea Sutcliffe, chief inspector of adult social care, says: “The quality of care which our inspectors found here was exceptional and I am very pleased that we can celebrate the service’s achievements.

“An outstanding service is the result of a tremendous amount of hard work and commitment. I would like to thank and congratulate everyone involved.”
