Borough Care hosts social walks

Borough Care is hosting weekly social walks for the elderly and their friends during May, which is National Walking Month.

The walks will take place around Woodbank Park in Offerton, Stockport every Tuesday until the winter, starting at 2.00pm and are appropriate for those with dementia to participate in.

Sophie Gardiner, area support at Borough Care, says: “Walking is a fantastic way for people of all ages and abilities to keep fit and active, and get out into the fresh air. It’s proven that exercise helps older people improve their physical and mental health and wellbeing. The walks are flexible, to take into account the speed and distance people taking part on a particular week can manage. It’s also a great social occasion, as people can enjoy refreshments in the park café afterwards.”

Each week, a number of residents from Borough Care’s 11 homes throughout Stockport participate in the social walks, joined by carers and members of the community. The social walks are part of a regular programme of activities Borough Care organises for residents at its homes.
