Borough Care marks Care Home Open Day

A wide range of activities took place at all of Borough Care’s 11 homes for older people in Stockport, as part of Care Home Open Day.

Now in its sixth year, Care Home Open Day is a national event to encourage people to visit care homes in their community, see the work that goes on and get involved in activities. This year’s Care Home Open Day took place on Saturday 21 April and had the theme ‘Linking Communities’.

Dr Mark Ward, CEO at Borough Care, says: “Care Home Open Day is a great way for us to showcase the fantastic work that goes on in our homes and the excellent services we offer.

"It also enables us to celebrate the different people, cultures and relationships in our area and show local communities that care homes are happy, friendly places to be. Some people still have misconceptions about care homes and we were keen to dispel any myths by inviting people to their local care home to see first-hand what’s on offer.”

Borough Care put on lots of different events and activities, to encourage families, friends and members of the community to go along to one of its homes and get involved. As Care Home Open Day coincided with the Queen’s birthday, some of the homes hosted royal themed tea parties and garden parties.

There was a special performance from Borough Care’s intergenerational choir and a visit from an animal therapy group. Borough Care’s Bruce Lodge held a carnival inspired event, while Shepley House hosted a community friendship party. The party spirit continued at Cawood House, which celebrated the best of British rock and roll with music and dancing throughout the day.
