CQC rates Norfolk home 'outstanding'

The Care Quality Commission has found the quality of care provided by Ford Place Nursing Home in Thetford to be 'outstanding', following an inspection in November.

Ford Place Nursing Home provides care and accommodation for up to 49 people.

Inspectors found staff were caring and compassionate and people were being provided with safe, responsive, caring, effective and well-led care.

Jemima Burnage, CQC’s head of inspection for adult social care in the central region says: “During our inspection at Ford Place Nursing Home, we found exceptional standards of care. There was a committed and well trained group of staff who provided seamless care by working together to ensure they met people's needs.

“Inspectors observed kind, compassionate staff who spent time with people and their families to ensure people’s wellbeing and to offer support which catered to their individual needs.

“People were able to retain their interests, routines, there was good stimulation for people and opportunities to ensure they could stay connected to their pasts.

“Staff encouraged people to retain their independence and people were consulted on their views and experiences, which helped shape the service. The service also acted upon feedback in a positive way which gave people confidence in the service they received.

“The home supported people to have positive mental health by encouraging people to stay active and socialise with others. There were activities, which took into account people's individual interests and hobbies, provided every day which helped prevent social isolation.

“Community engagement was also important and the home did a lot of engagement between old and young recognising the benefits and potential of doing so.

“Complaints were viewed as providing an opportunity to get things right and staff responded to these in a timely constructive way.

“All of this meant people received a high standard of care, which is why it has been rated Outstanding.”

Andrea Sutcliffe, chief inspector of adult social care, says: “The quality of care which our inspectors found here was exceptional and I am very pleased that we can celebrate the service’s achievements.

“An outstanding service is the result of a tremendous amount of hard work and commitment. I would like to thank and congratulate everyone involved.”
