Gregory House achieves 'outstanding' rating

Healthcare inspectors have awarded Gregory House care home in Grantham, run by The Orders of St John Care Trust, the highest possible ranking of ‘outstanding’.

The Care Quality Commission’s report, published 18 December, commended Tracy Turfrey, the manager, and her staff’s commitment to person-centred care, praising the home’s ‘positive, person-centred and open culture’. Gregory House is one of fewer than 250 residential homes of over 27,000 in England to achieve this distinction.

The independent regulator of health and social care described Ms Turfrey as ‘inspiring and dedicated to providing care which met the highest of standards’.

The inspection report applauded employees’ dedication to getting to know the people they supported and responding to their needs and preferences. It says: ‘staff were encouraged and enabled to work creatively which achieved consistently outstanding outcomes for the people receiving care’.

Residents were enthusiastic about Gregory House. One said: “I love living here! I am really happy – I should have moved here sooner.”

Tracy Turfrey, home manager at Gregory House, says: “The team at Gregory House is extremely proud of our ‘outstanding’ achievement. It reflects a huge cumulative effort from all who work here, along with families, outside agencies, our wonderful volunteers, and the local community. We are very passionate about our roles and the care we give, and work hard to ensure that the residents enjoy their time here. The people at Gregory House are what makes it ‘Outstanding’.”

Dan Hayes, chief executive, The Orders of St John Care Trust, says: “We’re all incredibly proud to be a part of Gregory House’s outstanding achievement. Anyone who reads the report will see that the home is central to the community around it, and that my colleagues there take an active interest in the whole life of the residents they care for and not just their care needs.

"People working in social care achieve the most wonderful things, and they deserve far more credit than they get. We employ some amazing people at Gregory House and the credit for this result is all theirs.”
