Nottinghamshire home rated 'outstanding'

The Care Quality Commission has found the quality of care provided by Forest Hill in Worksop, Nottinghamshire, to be 'outstanding' following an inspection in August.

Forest Hill provides personal and nursing care for up to 53 people. People are accommodated in two separate units within one building. The Portland Suite provides personal and nursing care for up to 21 adults with mental health needs. The Memory Lane community provides personal and nursing care for up to 32 older people living with dementia.

Inspectors found staff were caring and compassionate and people were being provided with safe, responsive, caring, effective and well-led care.

Rob Assall-Marsden, CQC’s head of inspection for adult social care in the central region says: “Our inspection team was really impressed by the level of care and support offered to people at Forest Hill, which we found gave them an enhanced sense of quality of life and wellbeing.

“We saw many examples of positive and caring interactions between people and staff. Staff went out of their way to make people feel that they mattered, and that they got the support they needed to maintain control of their lives. People were able to express their views openly and staff listened to what they said and took action to ensure their decisions were acted on.

“People mattered and were at the heart of the service. Staff spoke about people with warmth and affection and demonstrated this through their actions.

“Staff looked for creative ways to support people's lifestyle choices and maintain interests which were important to them. The service was well-maintained, and designed with people's needs in mind. The environment was decorated to make it more accessible for people with dementia and visual impairments.

“All of this meant people received a high standard of care, which is why it has been rated 'outstanding'.”

Andrea Sutcliffe, chief inspector of adult social care, says: “The quality of care which our inspectors found here was exceptional and I am very pleased that we can celebrate the service’s achievements.

“An outstanding service is the result of a tremendous amount of hard work and commitment. I would like to thank and congratulate everyone involved.”
